The Broken Bow
Written by Ranaan Meyer
Well....Time for Three is rockin more than ever! When we get on stage there is this wonderful camaraderie that is so intense. It is like we envision ourselves connecting musically 100% of the time. I love it!!! So... we only had 2 concerts this last tour, one in Athens, GA and the other in Aiken, SC. I would like to start off by thanking Ryan and all the staff in Aiken and Athens for their terrific work! Aiken was a great concert and a wonderful audience.Time for Three had a blast performing there. Athens was actually recorded for NPR. We were stokedabout this and looking forward on giving a rockin show. The first half was killer, and the second half was... a bit unusual. We have been playing this new tune that I composed called Ecuador. It is a HIGH Energy piece, and staying true to TF3 style, full of new, crazy, creative sound effects. I specifically have this one part in the piece where I whack the bow against the strings in order to get a heavy metal, percussive quality out of my bass. Up until this concert my bow always made it out of this section unhurt, but... during this show my newly, expensively acquired antique Morizot French double bass bow snapped in half. AHHHHH......! After the initial shock to the audience, Nick, Zach and me, I pardoned myself from the stage, went and got my second bow, came back on stage, made a few jokes, and then we continued on with the concert. I tell you, although this moment was unbelievably scary, I would not trade it back for anything in the world. A priceless anecdote to be told for years to come. I love music, I love people, and I love the combination of the two.
Why not, in Minot!

We had an awesome concert tonight in Minot, North Dakota. For those of you who don’t know how this town is pronounced, it’s just like the phrase, why not. And why not perform a concert in Minot every night for this great audience? They were out to have a great time from the first note we played, and Nick, Zach and I fed off their energy big time. Thanks to everyone in Minot for having so much fun tonight! Oh, I have to mention that I autographed a cellphone tonight. This was a first. Thanks Becky! Hopefully Tf3 will perform Minot again soon. Why not? -Ranaan
Rhode Island College

We’re driving up to Rhode Island College at the moment and I’m pumped up — we’re going to perform for a sell-out audience tonight. This always gets Nick, Zach and I excited. Nothing like performing in a great hall that is PACKED to the max with people who are excited about Time for Three's music! This spring has been awesome so far. I feel like Tf3’s playing at our highest level and it’s only getting better. After our Philly Pops shows in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center, something happened as Tf3 jumped substantially to a new level. Anyhow, touring can sometimes be trying but as of late it’s been smooth sailing. We have been performing a lot of the same tunes this year but many new compositions are brewing and this summer Tf3 is devoting most of our focus toward producing new repertoire. I’m really excited about the fresh new stuff we are putting together. New musical perspectives help me with performing on the road. Catching up with old friends is also refreshing. Tf3 recently performed with the Youngstown Symphony and a great friend of mine, Peter Seymour, drove in from Cleveland to hang out. He’s a great bass player and is currently playing in the bass section of the Cleveland Orchestra. We brainstormed about music and how and why it’s changing. This is something Nick, Zach, and I often discuss as well. We’d love to hear your own thoughts on the subject -- please let us know. I’m curious about your perspectives and what you feel Tf3 can do to push our music forward in the new times we’re in. Thanks so much and hope to see you soon at one of our shows. -Ranaan
